North Fork Festivals and Fairs

A fuller look at the recurring North Fork events that actually matter, from Greenport’s maritime weekends to Mattituck strawberry season and the quieter cultural events farther east.

Home > Festivals

The North Fork is not a place with one giant signature festival season. It is better than that. Different towns have different rhythms, and the event calendar tends to reflect that: maritime weekends in Greenport, strawberry season in Mattituck, historical-society programs in Orient, and winter shellfish celebrations when Greenport wants a colder-weather reason to gather.

Greenport

Maritime Festival

The Greenport Maritime Festival is one of the North Fork’s biggest recurring village events and the clearest example of Greenport leaning into its seaport identity. The official festival page highlights the parade, street fair, local food, artisan vendors, and cardboard boat race — which is exactly the mix that makes the weekend feel like Greenport at full volume.

Shellabration

Shellabration has been one of Greenport’s more distinctive colder-weather events, built around local seafood, restaurant pairings, and support for marine restoration work. The event has had changes and at least one cancellation, but it still matters as part of the village’s seasonal identity and is worth keeping on the radar.

Mattituck

Mattituck Strawberry Festival

The Mattituck Strawberry Festival is one of the North Fork’s classic summer events and one of the most recognizable town-centered traditions on this side of Long Island. It is more than a quick fairground stop — it is a local institution with real history and a charity backbone through the Mattituck Lions Club.

Orient

Oysterponds Historical Society programs and events

Orient’s event life is quieter and more rooted in place. The Oysterponds Historical Society is one of the anchors for that side of the North Fork, with seasonal programs, readings, talks, and community events that feel much more local-history-driven than festival-crowd-driven.

Mitchell Park and village events

Not every worthwhile North Fork event has a big festival name. Greenport’s Mitchell Park and the Friends of Mitchell Park programming are also worth checking if you want concerts, community events, and the kind of lower-key village activity that rounds out a trip.
