Why people go
The theater has deep roots in the village. An earlier theater on the same site was destroyed in the Great New England Hurricane of 1938, and the current theater opened in 1939. After a period of uncertainty and closure, it was revived as part of the North Fork Arts Center, a nonprofit formed in 2023 to preserve the historic theater and keep it from being lost to development.

How to work it into a North Fork day
North Fork Arts Center at the Sapan Greenport Theatre works well as part of a Greenport day. Build it into the route with nearby restaurants, shops, wineries, farm stands, beaches, or village walks depending on where you are headed.
NoFo Times note
Greenport Theater is one of those places we are glad exists. There is something great about being able to have dinner, walk to a movie, and still be in the middle of the village afterward. The fact that the theater was saved and brought back as a community arts space makes it even better.
