Why people go
Claudio’s traces back to Manuel Claudio, a Portuguese whaler who came to Greenport in the 1800s and opened Claudio’s Tavern in 1870. For generations, it was known as the oldest same-family-owned restaurant in the United States before the Claudio family sold the property in 2018 after nearly 150 years. The main restaurant building is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

How to work it into a North Fork day
Claudio’s works well as part of a Greenport day. Build it into the route with nearby restaurants, shops, wineries, farm stands, beaches, or village walks depending on where you are headed.
NoFo Times note
Claudio’s is one of those places that helps define Greenport for visitors. The waterfront, the boats, the history, and the summer energy all make it feel like a classic stop. Even as Greenport changes, Claudio’s still feels like part of the village’s center of gravity.
