If you want one of the more seasonal sides of the North Fork, this is it. Lavender fields, summer gardens, and flower-heavy detours are not the whole point of the North Fork, but they are a real part of what makes July and August feel different out here. This is one of the softer, more visual sides of a North Fork day, and it pairs especially well with farm stands, an easy lunch, or a quieter drive farther east.

The place most people mean: Lavender by the Bay
Lavender by the Bay is the lavender stop most people have in mind when they picture the North Fork in bloom. It is the place people go for rows of purple, cut bundles, photos, and that unmistakable scent in the air. The farm is family-run and has both its original East Marion farm and a larger Calverton location, but for North Fork purposes the East Marion farm is the one that matters most. During bloom season, timed tickets are sometimes required, so it is worth checking before you head out.
For a different kind of flower-and-garden day: Landcraft Garden Foundation
Landcraft Garden Foundation in Mattituck is a very different kind of stop. It is less about one peak bloom moment and more about a whole designed landscape: paths, plantings, sculpture, water, and a mood that feels much more immersive than a quick roadside visit. If Lavender by the Bay is the postcard version of a North Fork flower stop, Landcraft is the slower place to wander and take your time.
How to shape the day
The best version of this is not flowers only. It works better when you pair a garden or lavender stop with one or two other things nearby:
- a farm stand in Mattituck, Peconic, or Cutchogue
- an easy lunch on Love Lane or in Greenport
- a beach stop later in the day
- a slower drive farther east toward Orient or East Marion
Best for
- summer weekend mornings
- people who want a softer, more visual North Fork outing
- visitors pairing flower fields with farm stands and lunch
- repeat visitors who want something other than a winery day
